The 3 Doshas Series – Pitta

The Energy of Transformation

There are moments in life when everything feels hot and intense. Thoughts are sharp. Decisions come quickly. The body feels warm, the mind alert, ready for action.

In Ayurveda, this is the realm of Pitta dosha.

*What is Pitta?

Pitta is one of the three doshas in Ayurveda. It is composed of Fire and Water. It is the principle of transformation, activation, and metabolism. It governs all processes that burn, digest, and convert — in the body and the mind.

Willpower – Digestion – Metabolism – Vision – Determination – Clarity

Pitta resides primarily in the small intestine, supporting digestion, absorption, assimilation, and energy production. Fire transforms; water flows, carrying the transformed essence. Pitta is our inner warmth, illuminating the path of action and life force.

Fire is not chaos. Fire is illumination. You don’t need to burn endlessly — just enough warmth to light your day, to digest food, thought, and emotion. Balance your fire to live fully, bright, and present.

When balanced, Pitta expresses as:

  • Courage
  • Clarity
  • Determination
  • Joy
  • Insight

When imbalanced, it may show as:

  • Irritability or impatience
  • Overheating or inflammation
  • Criticism or perfectionism
  • Acid reflux or digestive issues
  • Modern life — with heat, competition, high expectations — often increases Pitta.
*How to Support Pitta?

Pitta responds to cooling, calmness, and moderation.

  • Choose cooling, fresh foods (fruits, vegetables, dairy)
  • Avoid excessive heat, spice, or overwork
  • Practice gentle, cooling yoga
  • Spend time in nature and water
  • Pause before reacting — cultivate patience

Balancing Pitta is not about extinguishing the fire, but about channeling it — enough warmth to illuminate, transform, and nourish your life.

When balanced, fire becomes radiance.
