For MUM To BE – Tips during pregnancy
Gentle Ayurvedic-inspired support tips during pregnancy and simple ways to nurture digestion, movement, comfort and calm as your body changes
Pregnancy is a beautiful journey, but it can also bring many questions.
How do I stay connected to my body as it changes?
How do I prepare for birth with confidence?
How do I find moments of calm in the middle of all the newness?
And what about the everyday challenges?
Changes in digestion, morning nausea, tiredness, back or pelvic discomfort, emotional ups and downs — pregnancy can bring something new almost every day.
Sometimes what we need most is simply a space to slow down, breathe and listen.
Ayurveda offers a gentle way of approaching this time. Rather than trying to control every change, it invites us to observe, adapt and nourish ourselves according to what the body needs.
Here are a few simple Ayurvedic-inspired practices and ideas that may help you feel more supported during your pregnancy.
Today, let’s talk about morning sickness & nausea
Nausea and vomiting are very common during early pregnancy, particularly in the morning, although they can occur at any time of day.
One approach that some women find helpful is to avoid letting the stomach become completely empty. Small, frequent meals can sometimes be easier to manage than larger meals.
You could keep a few easy snacks nearby and discover what works best for you, such as:
✨ banana or other seasonal fruits
✨ rice cakes
✨ chapati
✨ oats
✨ plain toast, perhaps with a little honey
✨ a few almonds or other tolerated nuts
There is no one food that works for everyone. During pregnancy, your preferences and tolerance can change from one day to the next — and that is perfectly okay.
Give yourself permission to follow what feels comfortable.
Sip water regularly throughout the day. If you enjoy it and tolerate it well, ginger can be added to food or enjoyed as a mild ginger drink. A little lemon or fresh mint can also be refreshing from time to time.
🌿 An Ayurvedic perspective
In Ayurveda, pregnancy is traditionally seen as a time to favour nourishing, satisfying and easy-to-digest foods.
Warm, moist and grounding meals may feel particularly comforting, while very dry, intensely spicy, greasy or heavily processed foods can be more difficult to tolerate.
You might include foods such as rice, oats, cooked vegetables, lentils, seasonal fruits, chapati, nuts and seeds, together with nourishing sources of protein such as lentils, beans, eggs, dairy if tolerated, fish or lean meat, according to your individual diet and preferences.
There is no need for a rigid pregnancy diet. The focus is on nourishment, variety and responding to what your body needs as your pregnancy unfolds.
Sometimes, a warm bowl of rice, a piece of fruit or a simple chapati is all you need.
🌸 Nourishment doesn’t have to be complicated.
These suggestions are intended for general wellbeing and are not a substitute for individual medical advice. Every pregnancy is different. If nausea or vomiting is severe, persistent, or prevents you from keeping food or fluids down, please speak with your midwife, doctor or other qualified healthcare professional.
